“Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith?”, Paul to the Galatians (Galatians 3)

Paul warned the Galatians against the attempt to win salvation by performing works, and that a person, whether Jew or Gentile, is justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law (Galatians 2:15-16).

The Book of Galatians is one of many letters Paul wrote to the churches.

When Saul was pursuing Christians to Damascus, trying to bring them back to Jerusalem, he met the Lord on the Damascus Road and was converted. He was struck blind, and then regained his sight when he met Ananias. (Acts 9:1-18)

Paul was known for many years as Saul of Tarsus. His zeal as a religious Jew was carried over into the way he sought to persecute the church, resulting in the scattering of Christians.
